To celebrate Jim Scheppke's service as Oregon State Librarian from 1991 to 2011
I am proud to have working with Keith Lance, Peggy Rudd and others to create the first national public library data system to collect and report public library statistics from all 9,000+ public libraries in all 50 states and DC. That was an awesome challenge and a lot of fun. We published the first statistics for 1989 and the 20th compilation for 2009 was just published by the IMLS. Because of this data system we have the data that can prove to any doubters out there that public library use is now greater than it's ever been!
