To celebrate Jim Scheppke's service as Oregon State Librarian from 1991 to 2011
Jim didn't want a traditional retirement party. "Too many greenhouse gas emissions, not to mention unwanted calories," he said. So instead we are having a Virtual Retirement Party - carbon neutral and heart healthy!

Thank you Anna. I hope you agree with me that coming to Oregon from Texas is a great career move for a librarian. People here want good library services for the most part. That's not the case in most of Texas, alas. That's why Oregon ranks near the top of most public library performance measures and Texas ranks near the bottom. Hook 'em horns! But I'm glad to be up here.
